While many of our graduating seniors will prepare for professional schools, graduate programs, or full-time jobs, other students will continue to stay active even after finals are over for the semester. Bucknell Health Network students will be busy researching, interning or even dancing!

Darshan Shah '12 and Sarah Moniz '11 will stay on campus to conduct neuroscience research with Kathleen Page, professor of biology. Yann Wester '12 will investigate the phylogeography of the gall-boring beetle Mordellistena convicta with Warren Abrahamson, professor of biology.

Some of our students will travel to research positions outside of Lewisburg. Katelyn Melgar '12 will intern with Dr. Johnson Liu at the Feinstein Institute for Medical Research in Long Island, N.Y., to study leukemia, stem cells and genetics. Natalie Chlus '12 will intern with Dr. Jonathan Cordeiro at the Masonic Medical Research Laboratory in Utica, N.Y., as part of its Summer Fellowship Program. She will conduct electrophysiology research to investigate sodium and calcium currents in heart cells. Jenna Wadsworth '12 has secured an internship at Johns Hopkins with an oncologist/hematologist and will work in a sickle cell lab performing cancer treatments on mice and visiting patients.

Yoni Siegel-Richman '12 will intern in his hometown of Denver, Colo., with orthopedic surgeon Dr. Steve Traina. Dr. Traina serves as a team physician for the Denver Nuggets and Colorado Avalanche, and also maintains a private practice called Western Orthopedics. He will shadow Dr. Traina and work in his practice by helping with MRIs and x-rays, sorting files, and performing other duties as requested. Yoni will also be in the operating room on Fridays to observe surgeries and learn more about medicine.

Zinta Zvargulis '11 will work with Community Volunteers in Medicine (CVIM) in West Chester, Pa. CVIM is a non-profit primary medical and dental care clinic for patients who do not have health insurance, but are working. All but one doctor are volunteers who come in one or more times a week to provide care. Zinta will work mainly as a receptionist, making appointments, answering calls, preparing charts, etc. She will also have the opportunity to shadow the doctors and put her Spanish-speaking skills to use.

Sara Palmer '12 will intern at Premier Rehab, a private physical therapy firm in Malvern, Pa. She will work with the physical therapists to provide patient care and treatment.

Rebecca Nelson '12 will intern at the Food and Drug Administration — Denver District. She will reconstruct the chemical inventory system in the laboratories and update MSDS and Certificate of Analysis files. Rebecca will also work on compiling a data analysis on the efficiency of the tests used by chemists and biologists.

Mikaela Soto '12 will spend part of her summer volunteering and shadowing at the Heart of Lancaster Regional Medical Center in Lilitz, Pa. She will also travel to Tuscany, Italy, for Pro Danza Italia, a four-week dance abroad program. While in Italy, Mikaela hopes to squeeze in some medical experiences.

I am sure that our students will have some great experiences this summer, and the Bucknell Health Network community will be very excited to hear all about them when they return to Bucknell's campus in the fall!
