Siberian studies

Sarah Beckham Hooff '10 has earned a Fulbright grant to study the public's perception of environmental issues near Siberia's Lake Baikal, the largest freshwater lake in the world. Located in southcentral Siberia, it is more than 1,500 meters deep and more than 60 percent of the species found there are endemic.

Hooff is conducting surveys of and interviews with environmental leaders to determine their beliefs about their roles in preserving the environment. "I met some really inspiring people very passionate about what they do," she told the Wheeling News-Register in a Sept. 12 article.

Hooff will be in Irkutsk, Siberia, until next summer.
