How to Get the Salary You Want
1. Do your research
Using Salary.com and Payscale.com can provide you with ranges that are appropriate for your experience and location.
2. Don't give out the first number
If possible, avoid stating your salary expectation before the employer does. If pressured, give a range.
3. Don't lie about your previous salary
A false salary could come out in a background check.
4. Don't take the first offer
Employers expect you to negotiate! A good rule of thumb is to ask for a 10% higher salary.
5. Once that's locked in, go for other benefits
If you are still not satisfied, ask for a six month review to reconsider.
