Giving to Bucknell
Peter Rovick, Class of 1991
Bucknell University 2006 Alumni Association Award
Awarded to an alumnus or alumna of the last 15 years whose professional accomplishments, service to alma mater, and/or selfless and caring work to benefit society are distinctive.
Peter Rovick '91 graduated with a degree in psychology. As a student he played club rugby, was a member of the IFC Philanthropic Committee, and worked for the technical crew on sound and lighting for performances at the Weis Center and across campus. He also started his own DJ Company providing music at campus functions. He has had a lifelong love for music, plays the classical guitar and played in pop and rock bands.
After graduation, he moved to San Francisco and worked in sales for APL, a global shipping company. While in California, Peter was honored to study classical guitar for more than five years with a member of the faculty of the San Francisco Conservatory of Music.
Peter began giving back to Bucknell in 1997 by becoming a San Francisco alumni admissions representative. He has regularly been involved in his class gift campaigns and has recruited dozens of his classmates to join the committee. He also has often talked with students about the importance of giving back to Bucknell in various ways.
Peter married Suzanne Doherty in 2000 and, one year later, they moved east to Wellesley, Mass. He again became involved as an alumni admissions representative and accepted the role as co-chair for the Boston area. He also responded to a request for Annual Fund volunteers and later became the chair of giving for the Class of 1991. In 2004, he was honored by being nominated as a member of the Bucknell Alumni Board of Directors.
On his own initiative, Peter created the "Unofficial Guide to the Boston Area for Bucknell Alumni." In the absence of a Boston area Bucknell club president, Peter contacted more than 250 alumni to cheer for the Bucknell men's basketball team as it challenged Wisconsin in round two of the 2005 NCAA tournament. In 2006, when the Bison again stormed into March Madness, Peter led encore events by organizing Boston alumni to cheer on the team in its two NCAA tournament games.
In his local community, Peter has donated blood platelets to the Red Cross more than 50 times in honor of his mother, father, and mother-in-law, all of whom are survivors of cancer. He has used his experience to encourage many friends and co-workers to join him in this worthy act. Peter has also given his time to the Wellesley Trails Committee, which builds and maintains a network of nature trails in the suburbs of Boston. He also serves as treasurer for the Wellesley Conservation Council.
It is with great pleasure that the Bucknell Alumni Association honors Peter Rovick, Class of 1991, with its Young Alumni Award.
